Immersion Brewer Design
RESULTS
This Starbucks Immersion Brewer was tested in 5 stores in CA and WA to validate the concept. It was then launched in Starbucks China, where there was a greater demand for an affordable, reliable single-cup brewing method. Today, it’s used in 7,600 stores across China.
OBJECTIVE
Design a single cup brewer that is easier to use than existing pour over method.
APPROACH
This started off as an ambigous ask, and I was responsible for understanding the business needs, doing market research of existing solutions, using the human-centered design approach to quickly iterate on solutions, and building a protoype to be tested in Starbucks stores.
RESULTS
The immersion brewer offers the business a low cost brand-forward, consistent method to brew any variety of bean in a made-for-you single cup of coffee. It allows reduces partners hand time by 6+ seconds per beverage and reduces partner mindshare enabling baristas to multitask when they need and deliver a great customer experience.
